Optreden van Finland uit de eerste halve finale

Jere Pöyhönen, bekend als Käärijä, is een 29-jarige songwriter uit Finland. 
Als experimenterende rapper is hij altijd bezig met het combineren van verschillende genres in zijn muziek. Hij is geboren in Helsinki en groeide op in het dorp Vantaa. 

Hij ontdekt zijn passie voor muziek wanneer hij begint met drummen. Sinds 2014 produceert hij zijn eigen muziek en in 2016 brengt hij zelf zijn eerste single uit. In 2017 tekent hij bij het label ‘Monsp Records’ en in 2020 komt zijn eerste studioalbum ‘Fantastista’ uit.

Waarom mag Käärijä Finland vertegenwoordigen?

In Finland houden ze een nationale finale om de Songfestivalinzending te kiezen, de Uuden Musikiin Kilpailu (UMK). Met 476 punten van de televoting (de tweede plaats kreeg er 152) was hij de overduidelijke publieksfavoriet met een eindscore van 539 punten in de finale.

Waar gaat ‘Cha Cha Cha’ over?

‘Cha Cha Cha’ is een samensmelting van rap, elektronische muziek, metal en schlager. Het nummer is in essentie een oproep om lekker los te gaan en los te laten. Jere wil met zijn nummer overbrengen dat het oké is om te zijn wie je bent, dat je moet durven dansen en je eigen ding moet doen. Käärijä staat bekend om zijn energieke, vaak shirtloze, optredens.  

Fun fact, hoewel hij in ‘Cha Cha Cha’ zingt over clubs en piña coladas, drinkt de artiest zelden alcohol.
