Griekenland: Victor Vernicos
Dreams do come true, Victor Vernicos is de jongste deelnemer ooit die namens Griekenland op het Eurovisie Songfestival optreedt. Hij is dit jaar overigens ook de jongste deelnemer van de hele competitie. Hij treedt als achtste op in de tweede halve finale op donderdag 11 mei met het nummer ‘What They Say’.
Victor komt uit een muzikaal gezin met een moeder die piano speelt en een vader die trompet speelt. Sinds hij elf jaar oud is, produceert en schrijft hij zijn eigen muziek.

Waar gaat het songfestivalnummer ‘What They Say’ van Victor Vernicos over?
‘What They Say’ is een zelfgeschreven nummer dat volgens hem diep uit zijn hart komt. De jonge artiest zegt zelf dat hij geïnspireerd wordt door Ed Sheeran, John Mayer en Coldplay.
In het nummer zingt hij dat hij zich overweldigt en angstig voelt. Hij mist de tijd dat hij zich gelukkig voelde. Hij heeft het gevoel dat hij te veel te doen heeft en probeert anderen te redden terwijl hij zelf ook in de problemen zit. De boodschap van het nummer is dat het voelen van je emoties, goed of slecht, je sterker maakt.

Hoe is Victor geselecteerd voor het Eurovisie Songfestival?
Een commissie met een jury- en publiekspanel van de omroep ERT heeft het nummer van Victor gekozen om Griekenland te vertegenwoordigen op het Eurovisie Songfestival in Liverpool.
